Just Ducky Business
A couple of years ago I wrote a blog asking for suggestions from the readers on how to keep ducks out of swimming pools. Each year we would have several calls from customers facing that problem. The ideas we gave were at best hit and miss.
Last year we even gave up and accepted the inevitable. In early Spring one associate discovered a nest with ten eggs – with momma watching guard nearby. Every day you would find one of us outside making sure Momma and her babies were doing all right. With perfect timing, on Mother’s Day, we arrived to find Momma and her seven little ducklings taking a morning swim in the inground display. We even had to help the ducklings out of the pool. They had no trouble jumping in but were too little to jump back out. Momma did not seem to care about her offsprings’ dilemma.
I guess the moral of my story might be, not finding the perfect solution sometimes leads to an interesting adventure.
So Long Winter!
I need Spring, sunlight and warmer weather. Thankfully Santa Clause is long gone and the Easter Bunny can’t come soon enough for me. I look forward to sure signs of Spring at the store. In a few weeks we will be seeing new colors and new styles of outdoor patio furniture along with our extensive selection of returning favorites. I am really anxious to see and try out the Amish made poly furniture made from recycled materials. The colors are bright and cheery and would add a splash to any back yard.
I enjoy talking to the swimming pool customers that are now coming through the doors. I get a chance to talk about a warm weather, summer fun item. It is fun to imagine that in about ten weeks they could be looking out the window and see an addition that is going to give them a whole season full of entertainment.
To anyone who is ready to get an early taste of Spring and Summer we extend a warm and friendly invitation to come and visit us.

Don’t Put Furniture Just Away Yet!
Even though the summer has come to an end, some of the best times to use your outdoor furniture are coming up. Temps below 80 are here. Evenings are cooling down. Outdoor dining can be relaxing and a great way to connect with friends and family members. It always has seemed to me that when you eat outdoors people seem to linger a little longer after a meal.
This is a great time of the year to also find a lot of great values on outdoor furniture if your furniture is old and worn or if you just want to add some new pieces.
So kick back, relax and enjoy the outdoors. We all deserve some good fresh air after one of the hottest summers that we have seen in a long time.
Back To School
I cannot believe it is already time for the children to go back to
school. I never did like it when my children were school age and now
that my daughter is a teacher I still dread this time of year. To me
it is an end of the time my daughter and I are off on the same days
and also the end her extra time with my granddaughter.
Now is also the time that many people with pools start to think about
closing their pools. For those with an aboveground pool it is not a
difficult task to tackle themselves. Our website has a "how to"
section under the "tips" heading. Many inground pool owners opt to
have their pool closed by a professional. It saves them time,
especially if they have a safety cover. It also assures the owner
that the job will be done correctly with no frozen pipes, pumps or
filters. This gives the owner a little extra peace of mind over the
next three seasons
Think Spring
I know Spring is right around the corner. At least I keep telling
myself this every time the Weather Channel mentions the chance of more
snow.
I’ve decided to “think Spring” and start planning on what new patio
furniture will replace what I have now.
I will start seeing many of the new styles and colors coming to the
floor within the next couple of weeks. Just in case I don’t see the
one that is just right for me, I also have the option of choosing
from several outstanding manufacturers. Each of them have several
styles and lots of different fabric selections and best of all I will
have plenty of time to order and have my new furniture at my home in
time for the warmer weather.
My children also are really excited about my new purchase because
they will inherit my 10 year old Telescope furniture It is still in
great condition after all that time. Turns out it is a win-win
situation.
Use Your Hot Tub Wisely
There is almost nobody that won’t reap the benefits a hot tub can offer, but there are several safety things to consider. Small children can use a hot tub but their bodies are smaller and they can heat up faster than adults. I recommend you keep the temperature a little lower and don’t let them stay in for more than 10-15 minutes at a time. If you have health issues, always consult your family physician before buying a hot tub, even though studies have shown that hot tubs are generally very good for you. It’s like anything, use it responsibly. — Debbie
How Do You Keep Ducks Out Of A Pool?
I have no scientific proof or documentation that this will work, but several customers have told me that they get good results by having several inflatables–the alligator is a favorite–floating in the pool during the day! Worth a try if those darling little fowl have adopted your pool as their new home. – Debbie
Ways to Make Your Tanning Go Smoother
When you have a home tanning bed you need to follow the tanning schedule recommended by the manufacturer and the sales associate that helps you. Ease into it. Don’t overdo it. Used properly, there are health benefits to tanning–primarily, the production of vitamin D. We don’t get enough vitamin D during winter months and this is not good for you. A tanning bed can be a great way to supplement what your body needs while you also keep it looking nice on the outside. And remember there are specialty lotions that you can buy that help the process along but never ever use any lotion that is not made for tanning bed use. –Debbie
