It’s that most wonderful time of the year again. As a retailer every year we rack our brains trying to figure out how to become your destination for holiday shopping. Ducks
As many of you know when pool season rolls around every year you may get a visitor from the sky. Ducks. They aren’t too bad to have in your pool but sometimes they leave things behind you really don’t want. I wanted to share with you a few ways I have found will not drive them away.
It doesn’t matter if you shoot them with a water gun because it turns out they really enjoy water. If you go out there acting like a duck flapping your own wings they tend to just quack back. We have a guy who works here who swears he was duck in a former life and when he goes outside its like a family reunion. Once the party gets started its hard to get them out of there but if you know a good way to remove them let me know.

Anniversary Sale Big Winners!
We had a wonderful Anniversary Sale Weekend! It was great to see all our regular customers and catch up on winter adventures. Many people enjoyed the free hot dogs, brats and metts we provided. (In case you are curious – the brats and metts were Johnsonville, the brat buns were Kroger brand).
Our big Anniversary Sale Winners were:
Kris Long – $250 Shopping Spree and Theresa Ziolkowski – $500 Shopping Spree.
Max only ate a combination of 5 brats, metts and hot dogs on Sunday. Rumor has it he chowed on a few chocolate chip cookies and thereby reduced his intake. There were five correct guesses for our contest. Our $100 gift card winner is Rick DePuccio. The four runners up: Diana Nordling, Connie Misch, Dottie Vinson and Tawnya Sullivan will receive a $25 gift card. For those interested many customers guessed that he would eat 4, 6 or 8. A few felt he would eat at least 20-25.
Eastgate Pools and Spas employees always enough our annual Anniversary Sale hosted the last full weekend of April. We know it is the kick-off for our summer season and can’t wait to show everyone what new products are available!
Umbrella Forest Now At Eastgate
2010 umbrellas are now in-stock! We at Eastgate Pools and Spas are excited about 
the wide variety of Casual Furniture Umbrellas we are offering this year. Whether your old umbrella bit the dust over the winter during high winds, is showing signs of wear or you are just in the mood for something new, we have expanded our selection. Leaf Covers
Something new! Leaf Covers!! If you have ever dropped everything that has accumulated on your winter cover into the pool when you go to open it in the spring, you will quickly appreciate leaf covers. Simply winterize your pool as normal and place the winter cover on the pool. Then put a leaf cover on over it. Leaves and small debris will be trapped on top and when all the leaves have fallen for the year, remove the leaf cover and accumulated leaves. The cover will be easier to keep pumped off and spring opening will be a breeze.
Important: Don’t leave the leaf cover on all winter. They are designed to come off once their purpose is served. –Max
Hot Pools And Bacteria
I just returned from a wonderful vacation at Yellowstone National Park. While there we visited the geysers, mud pots and other thermal features. (Plus saw many buffalo and elk.) It is truely amazing watching these natural features with their colorful pools. The hot temperatures of the water reminded me of the spas we sell here at Eastgate Pools. There are warnings posted throughout these areas in Yellowstone because in addition to the high temperatures the water in some cases is very acidic or contains harmful bacteria. So, I thought I would remind all of you the get your spa water checked for correct chemical balance. (Don’t want bacteria growing in your spa at home!) We at Eastgate offer free water testing – just bring in 8 oz. from your spa and we’ll help you! And if you ever have the opportunity – visit Yellowstone. It is unbelievable!
Don’t Waste Your Money
A little TLC goes a long way in pool ownership. Chlorine over time will break down plastic components. Such items as vacuum hoses, heads, brushes, and cleaners are just a few examples. You can prolong the life of these items and more by simply running fresh water from your garden hose over them after use. This simple process will rinse the chlorinated water from the item thus elongating the life. -Danny-

Another Use For Diatomaceous Earth
This morning I was watering my flowers and I noticed that a few of my Gerbera Diasies and Marigolds were being eaten pretty badly by slugs. A simple solution – sprinkle a little Diatomaceous Earth (DE) around the plants. It will kill the slugs. (Don’t overdue it as it will also kill healthy bugs too.) – Kathy
