Fighting A Green Pool

Some helpful hints to people who open to a very green pool this spring. For starters, please do not simply guess that chlorine tabs and liquid shock will cure all. What that is the most common treatment, sometimes the problem runs deeper than simple solutions. For example if you live in an area where people frequently treat their lawns, you could have a phosphate problem. Chlorine will not cure a phosphate problem and as such you could end up wasting a lot of money mistreating your pool. Bring us a water sample and we will be more than happy to make sure that all of the chemicals you purchase are necessary and effective. Having your water professionally tested can also help catch unbalanced water before it becomes a major problem. The benefit here is that catching poor water chemistry before the pool turns green can save you a lot of money. To make a long story short, having your water professionally tested will save you a lot of money, plus the test is free.

Two Months Old

Just a few days ago my first (and only) son turned two months old. (Time flies when your having fun) Over the last two months I have received some pretty good advice as far as raising children goes. The first piece of advice I received was that young kids will give you multiple heart attacks over their first few years. The second piece of advice I received was that babies are very resilient. I found out the other morning that both are true. I woke up in the morning to my wife saying that Brandon (my son) had rolled over and fell off of the couch. He then cried for a couple of seconds and went on about his day, which would also include a few shots later in the same afternoon. This incident proved that both pieces of advice were exactly correct because I’m pretty sure I suffered a heart attack that morning, and Brandon didn’t even realize anything had happened.

New Toys and Floats

Already have a pool? Next time you are in the store shopping for toys or accessories for your pool be sure to check out our newly expanded toys and floats isle. It hasn’t gotten any bigger but we have currently added to our already wide variety of inflatable toys. Recently we received a new shipment of Intex toys, which include goggles, rafts, beach balls and much more. Some of my personal favorites from our latest shipment include and inflatable water-slide for your pool, an inflatable boat for patrolling your own lagoon, and a floating basketball or volleyball game. But my personal favorite is that we carry a repair patch kit just in case one of your toys suffers a slight mishap.

Demo Game Tables

If you are looking for a new air hockey, foosball, or card table we are currently attempting to clear our main showroom to make room for this year’s inventory on casual furniture. How does this apply to you? This is the time of year when you can buy a new game table (demo models) at pretty significantly reduced pricing. These tables are in good shape and ready to roll. If you are on the fence about whether or not you want one, this could be the determining factor. Stop in and see what we have to offer.

My New Addition

About a month ago my wife gave birth to our first child, a 7lb 6oz baby boy that we named Brandon. Brandon was born 21 inches long and perfectly healthy. So far he really doesn’t cry too much, he loves to eat, and he seems to sleep pretty well for a new baby. Since Brandon was born I have learned a lot, such as; newborn babies are a lot of fun (as long as changing diapers doesn’t bother you), sleep isn’t as important as I was once thought it was, and babies are expensive. I have also starting taking an interest in pictures, which is something I have never been overly interested in before. My phone is full of pictures of my boy; my camera’s memory card is full for the first time ever, and we have pictures printed everywhere around my house. The first month has been a lot of fun and I’m fully looking forward to the next several months that will bring a lot of challenges and a lot more fun.

Spring Is In The Air

It’s that wonderful time of year when the season begins to change from cold and miserable to warm and beautiful. The first sign of spring for me is spring training for the Reds. Then spring training gets accompanied by March Madness which is basically a count down to opening day. I love March Madness and the excitement that comes with it, but I greatly look forward to baseball season every year as it typically means warmer air, greener scenery, and the return of outdoor activities. One of my favorite things to do in the spring and summer is listen to the Reds game on the back deck while grilling out and sharing a few adult beverages with friends and family. As far as I’m concerned it really doesn’t get much better than that. As an added bonus this year, I will get to do all of this with my new son.

Water Test Center Under New Management

For those of you who don’t know yet, Chet the water test manager here has decided to retire and has since moved out of the area. Rest easy however as we are still doing professional water tests and will be more than happy to give our expert diagnostic help. With the vast amount of experience we have here we are still fully equipped to meet your every water test need. Remember to stop in during the spring and get your water chemistry balanced early in the year to allow for a hassle free pool season.

Expecting My First Child

storkMy wife and I are currently expecting our first child. During her last doctors appointment we were informed that any day she could go into labor. As for the sex of our first child, we had decided to wait until the delivery to preserve the element of surprise. (my wife’s idea) As far as we know the baby is healthy and everything with the pregnancy has gone extremely well. Unfortunately that doesn’t cure all of my concerns. Despite the fact that their are six billion people on earth, and humans have been having babies since the beginning of time, for some reason I still get the feeling like I am the first one of us to go through this. All kidding aside I am getting really excited/nervous about the idea of becoming a dad. Luckily for me I have some good role models as far as raising children including my own dad, maybe you’ve heard of him. He has been in such productions as: “Eastgate Pools & Spas Winter Sale commercials, Eastgate Pools and Spas Anniversary Sale commercials, Eastgate… well you get the idea.

A Frog You Want In YOur Spa

For users of the Nature 2 system, we now carry the Frog Stick. The Frog Stick is similar to Nature 2 in that they are both mineral disinfectant systems, yet the Frog is compatible with Bromine, Chlorine and Oxidizer while the Nature 2 system is not compatible with Bromine. If you are currently using the Nature 2 system you will be happy to know that the Frog Stick works in a very similar manner as Nature 2, you simply insert the Frog Stick into the filter cartridge core (or into the skimmer well of some spas) and allow it to go to work for the next four months. The Frog Stick works together with lower levels of bromine or chlorine for a much more enjoyable spa experience.

ALLOW ME TO INTRODUCE MYSELF

My name is Rich West and I am new to the sales department here at Eastgate Pools and Spas. If I look familiar when you come into the store it could be because I have quite a history here. I originally worked here from 1998 through 2002 stocking shelves and helping customers to their cars, among other things. From 2003 until the beginning of 2009 I was working in residential construction, while I attended Northern Kentucky University. In May I graduated from NKU with a bachelor’s degree in Construction Management and an associate’s degree in Construction Technology.

I did spend the majority of this years’ pool season working in the service department here at Eastgate, which could make me look familiar to some of our customers. So, when you’re in the store look me up and I will be more than happy to help you with anything that I can. I look forward to meeting everyone.
