Safety Covers
Although it is scorching hot right now, you might want to think about ordering that safety cover you have been putting off. This time of year our manufacturer is slammed, so your order could take up to 4-6 weeks, which if you order right now would put you into the end of August. If you wait another month or so we could be talking about the end of September before we would see it. And for some that may be too long!! So don’t waste anymore time and stop in to see us today!!
As the traffic for inground pools is picking up here at the store, I’ve been reminded of one of the common questions that there isn’t always a great answer for. Customers frequently wonder what kind of financing we offer for our pools. The truth is there really hasn’t been any type of in house financing available since GE closed their loan division when the housing market dipped several years ago. With that in mind we have pursued several options through some of our local banks and we would always be happy to put you in touch with one of the loan advisors at these institutions. It is also always a great idea to explore financing options with banks you have worked with in the past, or possibly credit unions. While I wish there were more options out there, the reality is that banks like to see good credit and equity in the current market. When you are considering an inground pool this might help you to be as prepared as you can for getting the ball rolling and getting an installation in a timely fashion.

It’s Almost February
It is still freezing outside but it wont be long until we open the Inground Pool here at the store. I know it may seem early to some but the pool season for Eastgate Pools & Spas starts in the middle of winter and goes until the middle of fall. We may not sell many in the really cold months but to us the fact that summer is never really that far away stays fresh in our minds. All I can tell you is get ready because it wont be long until the hot days are here again and sounds of summer overtake our brains in a audible coup d’etat.

Need A New Liner?
I know some of you have just pulled your winter cover off and have now noticed your water level is down low in the pool. Don’t jump to the conclusion that your liner has a hole in it or that you need a new liner. Sometimes the weight from the winter cover can force water
out of the pool, or if you have a small hole in the cover you can sometimes pump water out of the pool when draining your cover. The first thing to do is fill it up and see if the water is still leaking out. If it is get your goggles out and go for a swim and put a patch on the hole. This will usually take care of any problem you think you might have but if you feel like you still need a new liner stop in and see us and we can get you squared away.

Vinyl Liner Versus Fiberglass
Here at Eastgate Pools & Spas we have been installing the Legacy Edition by Imperial Pools as our only option for an inground swimming pool since 1981. With over 3000 pools installed and no warranty claims on a pool wall we just don’t see any reason to mess with a good thing. That said we have an increasing number of potential customers that are looking at one-piece fiberglass pools vs. our vinyl-lined pool product. I just thought I would offer a quick insight into why we continue to offer the product we do, and why we have opted to stay out of the fiberglass market.
To put it simply, we don’t offer fiberglass pools because this just isn’t the right part of the country. If you travel to Florida, California, or any other state with a high sand content to the soil you will certainly see more fiberglass than vinyl pools. Well the opposite is true here in the Midwest because the heavy clay content of our soil, and the freeze/thaw climate make it the more appropriate and safer choice. The bottom of our pools have a solid yet porous base, which will allow in the worst conditions for water to “float” the liner. This defense mechanism ensures the pool structure is unharmed. With a fiberglass pool a similar situation would likely result in cracking or heaving of the pool out of the ground. Keep in mind, these are rare occurrences, but that is why we have chosen to stay with a proven commodity for this region. Each of these product options has advantages, but in our neck of the woods we believe in the benefits of the vinyl-lined pool. Over 3000 success stories can’t be wrong.

Inground Liner Rehangs
What is the number one reason people put a new liner in their in-ground pool? Believe it or not, it isn’t that it worn out. For pools we build the liner tends to have a life of 12-18 years and that’s a long time. Most people just want a new look. One of the beautiful things about a steel wall-vinyl liner pool is that you can completely change the look as often as you like. I’m not saying it is something you want to do every year or two, but do you remember how sweet it looked when the pool was brand new? Well, you can get that brand new look back very easily and there are DOZENS of looks you can change to. We have an enormous sample display here at the store so stop in any time and let us show you what is available. -Service Department
Choosing The Right Inground Pool Size And The Right Options
One of the most important things to remember when looking to buy a swimming pool is why you want a pool in the first place. Some people might buy a pool for exercise and some might want it for their kids to use in the summer.
We even have some people who want a pool so they can float around on a hot summer day with a cold drink. Whatever your reasons are for wanting a pool, you need to ask yourself who is going using it and how much time am I willing to spend on maintenance?
If you’re going to have 15 kids a day jumping into your pool then you should have a larger pool than your neighbor who only jumps in to cool off after lying out in the sun for an hour. If you are a person who uses their pool to swim 200 laps a day and other than that it just sits there then you probably don’t need a pool that is extremely wide. We also have those customers where mom wants to swim laps, dad wants to lounge around on a float, and junior wants to play basketball with all his buddies. This family is a good candidate for a Lazy ‘L’ or a True ‘L’. It doesn’t matter why you want the pool, but it is important to get one that fits your needs. If you want to see the sizes and shapes that are available, just click here.
After you figure out what size pool is going to be best for you its time to decide what options you would want. There are options that can take most of the work out of owning a pool, and others that can add years of fun and excitement. Every pool can be customized to fit your need, and it is usually easy to see the benefits of each available option.
Whether you live by yourself, or have 6 kids at home, there are pools and options that will work for you. You can have lights and fountains, diving boards and slides, or you can keep it as simple as you want. Your pool can be 60′ long, or 12′ wide, or you could go with a more traditional size, but you can always find the right pool and options for your specific lifestyle.

When Is A Sand Filter Not A Sand Filter?
Most of our above ground pool and in-ground pool customers have sand filters on their swimming pool. Sand filters are popular because they are easy to use but one drawback is that they don’t filter as small a particle as some other types of filters. Once solution is to replace the sand with something called Zeosand. This is a high purity zeolite material that has a honeycomb shape. It is a mined product formed millions of years ago, formed by alkaline salt water adhering to volcanic ash. The shape of it allows for more surface area than regular silica sand and a cubic foot of Zeosand has the same surface area of 100 football fields. This is 100 times more than regular sand. Your filter will clean more effectively and also will not require as much backwashing so it will save you money. And less backwashing means that less halogen chemicals get washed into the ground making it eco-friendly too. -Max
POOLS THAT MAKE THEIR OWN CHLORINE!
To those that we built a pool for last year: If you have a chlorine generator on your pool, don’t be surprised if the water goes a little cloudy when you turn on the pool for the first time this spring. When the water is still cold, it is common for the chlorine generator to produce a ‘milky’ look. This is normal and it will clear on it’s own without any specialty chemicals. Save your bucks for the fun things, like floats and toys. If you do have questions call us. Not sure what a chlorine generator is? Definitely call us! -Max
