I cannot believe it is already time for the children to go back to
school. I never did like it when my children were school age and now
that my daughter is a teacher I still dread this time of year. To me
it is an end of the time my daughter and I are off on the same days
and also the end her extra time with my granddaughter.
Now is also the time that many people with pools start to think about
closing their pools. For those with an aboveground pool it is not a
difficult task to tackle themselves. Our website has a "how to"
section under the "tips" heading. Many inground pool owners opt to
have their pool closed by a professional. It saves them time,
especially if they have a safety cover. It also assures the owner
that the job will be done correctly with no frozen pipes,pumps or
filters. This gives the owner a little extra peace of mind over the
next three seasons
Leaf Covers
Something new! Leaf Covers!! If you have ever dropped everything that has accumulated on your winter cover into the pool when you go to open it in the spring, you will quickly appreciate leaf covers. Simply winterize your pool as normal and place the winter cover on the pool. Then put a leaf cover on over it. Leaves and small debris will be trapped on top and when all the leaves have fallen for the year, remove the leaf cover and accumulated leaves. The cover will be easier to keep pumped off and spring opening will be a breeze.
Important: Don’t leave the leaf cover on all winter. They are designed to come off once their purpose is served. –Max
Winterizing Your Pool With Proper Chemicals
Some of our customers insist on using liquid chlorine (shock) to winterize their pool. They dump in a case or two of shock and then slam the cover on the pool. The problem is that chlorine is an oxidizer and when the water is super-chlorinated and it comes in contact with the winter cover, it immediately starts chewing up the winter cover.
Big mistake!!! Use a professional winter kit that has components that won’t damage the cover. Plus, most (all of ours!) have time release ‘ingredients’ that work all winter long. Closing with proper chemicals pretty much assures a clean pool in the spring and extended life for the winter cover. Winterizing with liquid chlorine assures that somewhere along the line, you are going to have a cover that splits out with all the gunk on top going into the pool.
